Cizhou ceramics appeared during the period of the Song dynasty (960 – 1279) and their production lasted until the 16th century.nnTraditionally, a transparent glaze was applied to a white engobe with simple and elegant shapes. The decorative motifs were incised directly into the engobe, then left as they were or painted brown. In these decorations dominate the floral patterns but also fish, birds or landscapes with various characters.nnThe sober aesthetic of these jars refers to the Confucian thought that the Song particularly appreciated.nnA thermoluminescence test attests to their authenticity (11th 12th century).
