Ge Ba on XXL canvas
The “Ge Ba”, or “fabric paintings” were born in China from the necessity for materials which preludes the local recycling art: rice glue was used to assemble on a flat board a collar of a used jacket, a still solid pocket, a fragment of a frayed mandarin robe…in other words it is the recycling of clothing that has become unwearable, even by the poorest.
This fabric patchwork is then used in the garment, but discreetly as lining, reinforcement, insoles. On these fabric patchworks one finds the colors of Chinese life: the indigo, brown and black of the little people, the flower patterns strictly reserved for children, block-printed hemp, “sharkskin” silk and fragments of calligraphy escaped from the Cultural Revolution.
As this collection is now dispersed, Atmosphère d’Ailleurs offers you the opportunity to purchase an original numbered edition, printed on canvas in large format, and which renders the specific texture of these abstract compositions.
